Day 16 (September 16, 2019) - Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park

Today's choice for a visit was another high elevation destination - Bryce Canyon National Park.  It was a gorgeous park, much like Cedar Breaks except 50 times better.  It had more hoodoos, more trails, more scenic areas, more everything.  Just like Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon is a park seen from the top.  Drives are on the plateau above the valley and many trails are as well.

The most popular trail in the park covers both the plateau and the canyon.  It is the Queen's Garden and Navajo Trail Loop.  It takes hikers down the canyon wall into the valley and includes a challenging 600-foot ascension from the valley floor through a series of switchbacks.  It starts as a rim trail between Sunset and Sunrise Points.

The scenes from the descent and valley floor were fantastic.

The daily animal hunt didn't end because we were down in the canyon.

Finally, the ascent and the prospect of the switchbacks.

Susan and I ended our hiking with the ascent.  The others continued along the valley floor for another 3+ miles.  After we finished, we had packed lunches and visited some of the overlooks long the plateau.

Immediately, animals started finding us.

As we left the park, we took a 15-mile detour on a rough dirt road around Tropic Lake to look for more animals.  We were successful in finding some mule deer.

We headed home and had a delicious hamburger meal.  But not before I washed my car to remove yet another layer of dust from the dirt road.

Susan’s quote of the day:  “I'm trying to get Paul to friggin' stop."  Its obvious some frustrations are rising as we've spent 16 days together 24/7.

The highlights - Queen's Garden hike.
The regrets - None.
